Hello Friends! Welcome to a new DIY project! This time it’s Ok .. Ok.. Okra… (I know it was pathetic and nowhere close to La La Land) 😛
Let’s go for it! Okra is as simple as Egg Plant. You just have to sow the seed and water it regularly. I know as usual you’re going ‘I don’t think it’s that simple!’ Well then, you have to try it!
Step I: Here are the okra/bhindi/lady’s finger seeds. To sow them just spread them and press them slightly. Do not dig them inside the soil. Just pressing them little is fine. And even that is optional.

Step II: Water them regularly.
Step III: Do nothing. The seeds will germinate in 3-4 days.
You can see the first flower within a month!
Step IV: Enjoy your harvest! 🙂 You can have your first harvest by 45 days. Similar to egg plant and tomato the flower will make way for the fruit. Here’s a look at the developing stages of Okra
Note: One very good thing about the Okra plant is that it has very small roots. So you can plant many plants in one single pot. So any size of pot starting from 4 inches is great for growing okra!
I have tried planting okra long back. Its easy to grow 🙂

I prefer to be organic.
That’s my next objective, have some renovation to complete.
Couple of important things I would like to suggest for a laymen like me:
– Need sunlight?
– How much water to give every day
– Indoor or outdoor
– Any special treatment wrt soil or what to consider.
If you can mentioned in separate bullet point. Some of them you did touch in your post.
So if you remember, it would be very helpful for people like us. Who are zero meter 😊

Yes the plants need sunlight!
you’ll know it… sice the pots have holes in the bottom, the excess water will get drained out.. so worries about it.
definitely outdoor

I have to check your blog in detail. I have planned to do seriously from July onwards.
I have one issue, that I have to check with local gardeners, I have a gallery, but it has AC and it’s sort of closed not open since the landlord have put glass in the balcony.
I reside in KSA, the sun is quite hot. Plus due to privacy issues, a lot of landlords over here put gloss glasses.
So I don’t know whether this will help or not. Since it won’t be direct sunlight.
Any advice / opinion?

Can you email me your gallery/balcony pics? We can work out on it together!

Also, can you take photographs during different time.. Eg: one in the morning 9am, one in the afternoon around 1 pm and one around 5pm !
Can those glasses be opened?partially at least?

Thank you so much. I reside in Jeddah, which is coastal city. So weather is mainly hot. Temp can soar to 50+ as well. But normally loams around 45 – 48 in summer with extremely high UV.

I have one more guy who just shifted to another city. He has been doing home gardening. So will ask his help as well. He is also quite cooperative like you.
He was basically the one who inspired me to start.
Just we are arranging things at our end. So this will come in the end. After we finish the paint job which we have kept in the end. This home gardening project will kick off.

We hardly have rainfall like even if we do its likely a drizzle, unlike real rainfall so average is 24mm. But I guess it’s a bit exaggerated figure.
